Centralia College is launching a new program this fall to prepare individuals for jobs and apprenticeships in the construction industry. The Construction Trades program can be completed in one quarter. It covers the basics of construction and workplace safety, blueprint-reading, equipment and tools, and introduces students to a variety of jobs in construction. Students will also earn their OSHA-10 certification.

Although new to the Centralia College main campus, a similar Construction Trades program has been available for many years and is in high demand at CC’s corrections education sites. It is coming to Centralia College’s main campus only for fall quarter.

“We are excited to expand this program to main campus and facilitate Construction Trades training in our community. The opportunities within the construction industry are numerous. Our goal is to set students up for success in pursuing apprenticeships and being job-ready,” explained Elizabeth Lazo, Dean of Career and Technical Education. “This is a one-quarter program, so students can take classes for 10 weeks and come out ready to enter a formal apprenticeship program or to take entry-level jobs in construction.”

There are no prerequisites and there is no cost to apply. Classes will run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the Centralia College campus starting Sept. 18. Students who complete the program will earn 20 credits.
