Earth Week 2026
Check out a week of earth-friendly campus events sponsored by the Centralia College Sustainability Committee and the Student Advocacy Activities Leadership Team.

In addition to the events below, there will be daily sustainable lunch specials in the Blazer Bite Cafe!
All events are held in the TransAlta Commons building on the first floor. All are free. Student-only events requiring a current Centralia College student ID are noted. All other events are open to the community.

| Monday, April 20 | 10:30-11:30 am | Presentation - Climate Justice: Hope for the Commons | Evergreen State College environmental studies faculty member, Dr. Shangrila Joshi, will discuss her research regarding alternative energy programs, forest protection projects for climate mitigation, and how these connect to the climate commitment act in Washington. This is a free, community event. |

| Monday, April 20 | 11:30am | Student Art Show Opening Reception | Celebrate the opening of the Student Art Show. Voting on the art pieces will begin. Submissions will be on display all week. Winners will be recognized in the upcoming issue of Spilled Ink Literary & Arts Magazine. |
| Tuesday, April 21 | 10:30-11:30am | Presentation - Thriving Cities | Centralia is actively enhancing its community through the Thriving Communities Grant Program, focusing on creating a safer, more connected Main Street Corridor. As one of 52 U.S. communities selected for this initiative, Centralia is leveraging federal funding for transportation, housing, and economic development to foster a vibrant, sustainable, and welcoming environment. Join us for a short presentation on this exciting project. This presentation is free and open to the community. |
| Tuesday, April 21 | 11:30am-1pm | Stuffies, Movie, & Butterfly Garden | CC students are invited to stuff a plush toy, learn about butterfly gardens, and watch the movie "The Lorax." Student ID required. |
| Wednesday, April 22 | 10am-1pm | Resource Fair & Crafts | CC students are invited to explore local resources, craft with air plants, and construct beeswax paper. Student ID required. |
| Wednesday, April 22 | 12-12:30pm | Presentation - Sustainable Agriculture & Local Food |
Jennifer Colvin, owner of Colvin Ranch in Tenino, will speak on their sustainable grazing practices, humane livestock handling, stewardship of land, and insurance of native plants and animals flourishing alongside livestock. Her family ranch provides grass-fed, grass-finished beef to consumers through farmers’ markets, food hubs, and retail stores. There will be a special in the cafeteria using Colvin beef this day. This event is free and open to the community. |

Learn how to save money by saving food (reducing food waste) in this interactive presentation
by the Master Gardeners, Recyclers, and Composters. This event is free and open to
the community.

In honor of Earth Week, SAALT is hosting a pop-up thrift "store." Students are invited
to come and “shop” for donated items they may need between 12pm and 2pm. Items will
be free for all. Student ID required.
