American Sign Language

American Sign Language I (American Sign Language 121 ) is a fully online introductory course that covers visual awareness, vocabulary, basic grammatical principles, comprehension skills, and the historical overview of the deaf community and its language.

Creative Writing

Intro to Creative Writing (English 208) is a fully online intro course to creative writing. Throughout the course, students produce short pieces of writing across four genres of creative writing - poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and drama. Each of the writing assignments are fewer than 1,000 words.

“All pieces of writing are workshopped in a collaborative and supportive environment,” explained Matt Young, the instructor. “Student writing also receives detailed feedback from me. Points for the course come from drafts, reading quizzes, discussions, and a final revision of a piece of the student’s choosing. Drafts are low stakes assignments and receive full credit and constructive feedback if completed. We read and focus on contemporary trends in creative writing with an emphasis on crafting work for publication.”

Children’s Literature

Children’s Literature (English 233) is a hybrid course – students will meet just once a week in-person and complete the rest of the requirements online. The class will meet on Wednesdays from 10:30-11:50 a.m.

“This is a fun summer course that explores the different types of writing for young people and gives students a chance to build their skills reading out loud to children,” explained Alisha Williams, the instructor. “We meet face-to-face once a week to come together to celebrate children's classics, eat snacks, and even be visited by a special doggie bookworm!”

Mass Media

Intro to Mass Media (Communication Studies 102) is a fully online course with instructor Jeff McQuarrie. It is a survey of the mass media in America - newspapers, magazines, books, recorded music, radio, television, motion pictures, the internet -with emphasis on structure, function, audience, content, effect and social responsibility.
