Who Needs to Test?

All Running Start applicants.

What Are the Tests Like?

  • Multiple-choice tests used to identify skill levels in reading, writing, and math.
  • COMPASS testing is done on a computer and features no time limit.
  • COMPASS is available on a walk-in basis, without appointment.
  • Allow 1 to 2 hours for testing.
  • ASSET is a timed test, and must be scheduled in advance.

What Do I Do To Arrange Testing?

  • Get a student I.D. number from Admissions/Registration Office.
  • Pay $10 testing fee at the Cashier’s Office.

When and Where Can I Test?

  • COMPASS Testing: Mon-Thurs 7:30am-7:00pm; Fri 7:30am-2:00pm.
  • Summer hours: Mon-Weds 8am-7pm, Thurs 8am-1pm (closed Fridays) (Hours may vary; call Testing Center at 736-9391 ext. 216 to confirm hours).
  • When you go to test, take receipt to Testing Center (front counter of Library).
  • To schedule ASSET, contact the Testing Center at ext. 216.

What Can I Bring to the Test?

  • You need to bring picture ID, cashier receipt, and student ID number.
  • Pencils, pens and scratch paper are supplied. Calculators will be provided if needed.

What Happens After Testing?

  • Immediately after testing, you will get a placement report with your scores.
  • To be eligible for Running Start, you need to test at the college level in Reading and either Writing or Math.
  • Students who do not test at college level can retest for the section(s) not passed. Call 736-9391, ext. 265, for more information about retaking the test. Only one retest per quarter will be allowed.
