I teach English 101 and 102, our required composition courses; however, I also teach Speech 110 which is our course comprised of both public speaking and an overview of interpersonal communication principles. I also teach Children's Literature every other year as part of our regular literature offering.
I started teaching at Centralia College as a part-time instructor in 1989 and became full-time in 1992. Even though I had enjoyed a teaching career in public schools for a number of years prior to that, it was when I started teaching at CC that I finally knew what I wanted to do "when I grew up." I have never regretted that decision! Centralia College is an exciting, dynamic, supportive environment that makes a difference in people's lives. I enjoy reading, going to plays and concerts, sitting by the ocean, raising roses, collecting teddy bears, and enjoying the adventures that life offers. I adore my family, especially my grandchildren, and have lots of pictures in my office that are evidence of that!
I am active in the community in that I serve on the United Way Board of Directors, am a member of Soroptomists International, a women's service organization which is dedicated to helping women improve their lives through education and training, and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international association of women educators whose mission is to promote education. I have served as the Chehalis-Centralia Sigma Chapter President of DKG since 2006.
I think students will tell you that in my classes, I require your best efforts, assign lots of "stuff," and am firm but fair. I look forward to meeting you and helping you make the most of your time at Centralia College.
