Civil Engineering Technology
As infrastructure throughout the U.S. ages, the demand for Civil Engineering Technicians is expected to experience a workforce growth of at least 12% by the year 2020. The earning potential for Civil Engineering Technicians is well over the national average compared to other occupations, with a median annual income of $46,290. Medical and retirement benefits may be available with most jobs.
Our Civil Engineering Tech Program
Prepares students to meet the challenge of advancing technology and industry demand
Degrees & Certificates*
- Associate in Technical Arts, Civil Engineering Technology
- Certificate of Completion, Computer-Aided Drafting
- Certificate of Proficiency, Land Survey Technician
Associate in Technical Arts–Civil Engineering Technology
The Associate in Technical Arts (ATA) degree in Civil Engineering Technology at Centralia College focuses on engineering tasks related to the planning, design, and construction of land development projects in both the public and private sectors. The ATA in Civil Engineering Technology program prepares students for a wide range of entry-level employment positions such as field survey technicians, design technicians, construction inspectors, or construction material testing technicians. These positions are vital to many industries and support from Civil Engineers is essential.
As a part of the ATA in Civil Engineering Technology (CET) program, students are trained and receive certifications as Land Survey Technicians and in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD), allowing for an even wider variety of employment opportunities in many different fields in both the public and private sectors.
CET Career Opportunities
Career opportunities in CET include:
- Field Survey Technician
- Civil Engineering Design Technician
- Construction Inspector
- Construction Material Testing Technician
- CAD Drafters
- Land Survey Technician
Certificate of Completion–Computer-Aided Drafting
Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) has been perhaps history's most significant revolution in mechanical and engineering drawing. Modern drafters are found in virtually every facet of engineering, design, architecture, and manufacturing. The Certificate of Completion in Computer-Aided Drafting is a vital part of the ATA in Civil Engineering Technology program, or a certificate may be earned independently by individuals who are currently in a technical profession and who desire to upgrade their skills in Computer-Aided Drafting. The median income for this profession is well above the national average compared to other occupations, with an annual income of $47,880 and growth of at least 6% by the year 2020. Medical and retirement benefits may be available with most jobs.
CAD Career Opportunities
Career opportunities in CAD include:
- Aeronautical Drafters
- Architectural Drafters
- Civil Drafters
- Electrical Drafters
- Electronics Drafters
- Mechanical Drafters
- Process Piping or Pipeline Drafters
Certificate of Proficiency–Land Survey Technician
Land Survey Technicians work closely with surveyors, engineers, landscape architects, and urban and regional planners to establish official land, airspace, and water boundaries for use in plans, maps, and for drafters in both the public and private sectors. The Certificate of Proficiency as a Land Survey Technician is a vital part of the ATA in Civil Engineering Technology or may be taken independently. The income for Land Survey Technicians is well above the national average compared to other occupations, with a median income of $37,900 and an expected growth of 16% by the year 2020. Medical and retirement benefits may be available at most jobs.
