Karen Goodwin is an Associate Professor of Chemistry, and has been at Centralia College since 2012. She teaches the majors organic sequence (Chem 261, 262, 263) and organic/biochem for allied health students (131), as well as the first quarter of the general chemistry sequence (161), and the second and third quarters of gen chem as a trailer sequence. (262/263 sp/f quarters). Prof. Goodwin earned her Bachelorís of Science (Cum Laude, 2007) and Masterís degree (2009) in Chemistry from California State University, Sacramento.

Prior to accepting the job at Centralia, she worked as an adjunct at several community colleges and at the university in Sacramento. Her research interests are focused in Green Chemistry, specifically in adapting traditional laboratory methods to greener alternatives while maintaining their purpose as teaching tools. Prof. Goodwin has several research students each quarter, generally working on the development or optimization of labs that will be used in the chemistry courses.

Prof. Goodwin is an active member of the Puget Sound Section of the American Chemical Society, where she has served as Secretary, Chair, and the Chemistís Celebrate Earth Week coordinator. Prof. Goodwin in also the developer and co-chair of the Capstone Presentations, held annually on the last Friday of spring quarter.

In her free time, Prof. Goodwin enjoys hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, and kayaking.
