Office Assistant
Certificate of Proficiency


The Office Assistant Certificate program prepares students for entry-level employment as office assistants. Prerequisites include: demonstrated proficiency in math, reading, English, and basic keyboarding skills.

Program Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program should be able to:
  1. Demonstrate the ability to keyboard with speed and accuracy.
  2. File correctly using alphabetic, numeric, geographic, and subject filing systems.
  3. Apply rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling in written and oral communications.
  4. Prepare documents using word processing software.
  5. Format business letters, memos, reports, tables, and newsletters to office standards.
  6. Solve basic business math problems.
  7. Operate a 10-key electronic calculator by touch.
  8. Analyze and calculate data using spreadsheet software.
  9. Demonstrate the ability to relate effectively with others in the classroom.
  10. Demonstrate human relations skills and professional behavior necessary for successful job performance.
  11. Prepare documents using advanced features of word processing software.
  12. Enter data using database software.
  13. Develop effective presentations using presentation software.
  14. Organize data using business math and practical accounting.
  15. Prepare a resume and letter of application.
  16. Possess a basic understanding of receiving office visitors, using the telephone, scheduling appointments, customer service and confidentiality skills in an office.
  17. Develop effective communications skills using electronic software.
