Certificate of Proficiency

Purpose

The Office Assistant Certificate program prepares students for entry-level employment as office assistants.

Program Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this program should be able to:

  1. File correctly using alphabetic, numeric, geographic, and subject filing systems.

  2. Apply rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling in written and oral communications.

  3. Relate well to others in an office environment.

  4. Word process using the latest versions of Word and WordPerfect (word processing programs).

  5. Format basic business letters, memos, reports, tables, press releases, itineraries, and newsletters.

  6. Write resumes, letters of application, business letters, and memos.

  7. Transcribe from recorded dictation.

  8. Operate a 10-key electronic calculator by touch.

  9. Use business math and practical accounting to organize data.

  10. Enter accounting transactions, and print reports using Quick Books.

  11. Enter data on spreadsheets, enhance spreadsheets, and develop graphical charts.

  12. Use accepted office procedures.
