Purpose
The Medical Office Assistant Certificate program combines general office skills with students in medical terminology, human biology, medical office procedures, and medical machine transcription.Students who successfully complete this program should be able to: file correctly using alphabetic, numeric, geographic, and subject filing systems; use medical terms correctly; apply rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; demonstrate the ability to relate well to others in an office environment; use the Word word processing program; write resumes, letters of application, and simple business letters; transcribe medical documents from recorded dictation; operate 10-key electronic calculator by touch; obtain a first aid certificate; demonstrate an understanding of human biology; use accepted office procedures; use features of Windows operating system; use reasoning to solve problems; use written, oral, and visual communications; demonstrate resourcefulness; demonstrate responsibility.
Career Opportunities: As medical services increase, the need for office support staff will increase. Among potential employers for graduates are medical, dental, chiropractic, convalescent centers, mental health offices, hospitals, clinics, and the Department of Labor and Industries
