Associate in Arts
Purpose
The degree program is designed for persons interested in transferring to a four-year college or university to obtain a bachelor's degree. Additionally, it should attract students interested in careers which benefit from bilingual abilities such as international business, teaching, social and government jobs which deal with non-English speaking people, interpreting, translating, and the foreign service.Recommended Course Schedule
To qualify for this degree you must complete a minimum of 90 credits in courses numbered 100 or above.
The 90 credits must include the following:
Basic Skills
| ENGL& 101 | English Composition I (C) | 5 |
| ENGL 102 | English Composition II (C) | 5 |
| MATH | Quantitative Skills (M)* | 5 |
| Total Credits | 15 |
* Any quantitative reasoning course in mathematics for which Algebra II is a prerequisite.
Social Sciences (SS) 15 Credits
Select courses from at least three (3) disciplines such as: Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, History and Political Science
Humanities (H) 15 Credits
Select courses from at least three (3) disciplines such as: Art, Drama, Music, Foreign Languages, Humanities, Literature, Philosophy, and Speech.
Natural Sciences (S) 15 Credits
Select from at least three (3) disciplines such as: Biology, Botany, Nutrition, Chemistry, Physics, Geology and Oceanography. Health and Fitness (HF) 3 CreditsThree (3) credits from the list of courses approved for Health and Fitness distribution.
Electives 30 CreditsThe remainder of the courses will consist of foreign language courses and any others that will satisfy departmental requirements of the college or university you have chosen for transfer.
Note: Students are advised to consult their advisor for the selection of the elective credits. Depending on the career interests, courses such as Anthropology, Business Administration, Computer Programming, Political Science, etc., would be appropriate
Students are required to complete 3-5 credits in a Diversity course (D). A list of courses that satisfy the Diversity Requirement can be found in the college catalog.
