Media Studies - Broadcast Journalism
Associate in Arts
Purpose
The Media Studies program is designed for students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media. In some cases this program is equally suited for students interested in a two-year terminal degree prior to entry in the media field. The Electronic Media facilities at Centralia College are unique among Washington State community colleges. Students learn on professional audio and video equipment and are provided experience in numerous areas of production. Students primarily interested in Broadcast Journalism will work in conjunction with the College’s Journalism department. Classes in Medial Studies will give students the opportunity to gain skills in writing for broadcast news, announcing and reporting for both radio and television. Production techniques will be covered including: recording and editing audio and visual media. Students will practice in the College’s television studio, which is equipped with teleprompter’s and a green screen. They will also broadcast live on KCED FM, the campus Radio station. Students who transfer to a four year college should consult their advisors for choice of distribution credit and elective courses.
